Kyrie Irving Doesn't Care If LeBron James' Feelings Are Hurt

Kyrie Irving ESPN First Take

Smith: Did you speak to LeBron James or talk to LeBron James before you and your representatives met with ownership before you let them know you wanted out?

At another point in the segment, Smith discussed various storylines regarding the upcoming National Basketball Association season, and then asked: "Are you prepared to deal with - unintentional or not - are you prepared to deal with the distraction that you are going to be just because you're that good and you made a decision to leave Cleveland and you ended up in Boston?"

Kyrie Irving perhaps shouldn't known what he was getting into, given Stephen A. Smith's demonstrated interest with the newly acquired Celtics guard's relationship with his old teammate LeBron James.

"It was interesting, interesting, six years and you think about how the journey transcended my career".

When pressed by Smith on what he meant by this and whether he was referring to coach Tyronn Lue or the front office, Irving replied: "No".

And while Irving hasn't seemed to have had much recent interaction with James, he won't have to wait long for his next encounter with his former teammate.

"There is no time to figure out how to save somebody's feelings when ultimately you have to be selfish in figuring out what you want to do", Irving said.

"I think we're forgetting one important thing", Irving said. I'm not here to tirade anybody or go at one particular person or the organization because I have nothing but love for Cleveland.

"It wasn't about me not wanting to win, it wasn't anything about that", he said.

The point guard's sudden decision to demand a move away from the Cleveland Cavaliers came as a surprise to many. "And that was the only intent that I have in all of this".

Yet this summer, Irving requested a trade, and the Cavaliers and Celitcs were able to execute a blockbuster that sent Isaiah Thomas to Cleveland and Irving to Boston.

The NBA season opens when the Celtics play in Cleveland on October 17.
