Manchester United must win games like Stoke clash to take title - Matic

Nemanja Matic has warned Manchester United that they can not afford too many repeats of their 2-2 draw at Stoke if they are to land the Premier League title.

Kurt Zouma was one of three good central defensive performers for Stoke City against Manchester United on Saturday. It was perfectly understandable, though part of me would have liked to see more of the Mata-Henrikh Mkhitaryan-Paul Pogba creative axis.

Despite dropping points, United remain top of the Premier League table but Mourinho says Stoke were only playing for a draw. Both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly were poor. Maybe that is why he didn't want to shake my hand. That said, Stoke away was United's sternest test yet and on the balance of play, they passed.

The former Man United striker pushed Mourinho when he entered the Stoke technical area and Mourinho refused to shake his opposite number's hand at the final whistle because he believed he was told to "f*** off" by the Welshman.

When speaking with the BBC about the incident, Mourinho was quite irritated.

During his post-match interview, the Stoke City manager said: "I pushed him because he was in my technical area".

"He also asked the referee to send Jose to the stands".

"I don't speak about stupid things, I'm too old for that, talking about stupid things is for stupid people".

The £200,000 of fines and succession of touchline and stadium bans he has picked up during his time in English football should serve as evidence that he gets very little out of vendettas that only produce results if his players are willing to embrace them and he would be wise to put the Mr Angry routine back in its box before it overcomes him once more.

"Sometimes, because they're not used to having to take negative results, sometimes they react in the wrong way".

"I prefer not to answer question about handshakes".

"In fairness, I've got history with non-handshakes so maybe it's me!"

The Red Devils will now shift their focus to the UEFA Champions League, where they will face FC Basel on Tuesday.
