Organizations ready to help with Hurricane Irma

Bay Area Rescue Teams Head to Mississippi for Hurricane Irma on Heels of Harvey Relief Efforts

About 3:30 p.m. Thursday, 16 members of California Urban Search-and-Rescue Task Force 3 returned to Menlo Park after spending a week in Texas responding to Hurricane Harvey.

According to NBC reports, Hurricane Irma left more than 1 million in Puerto Rico without power and killed at least 12 in the Caribbean.

A historic number of response partners engaged to support Texans, including the Texas Military Department and State Guard with high-profile vehicles and helicopters, which were teamed with water rescue swimmers from TX-TF1, he added.

Less than 72 after his 10-day stint in Texas, he's on a list to be called if it's decided Ohio Task Force One is needed to relieve those suffering from Irma.

"I believe everybody got a chance to go home and rehab those who are going out the door back to back", says Memphis Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Colin Burress. They know- Irma could send them out the door once again.

The task force has 210 members, and approximately 48 of those members took part in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort. The team is made up of first responders from the Lincoln and Omaha areas.

Among the 80-person team headed for Florida are 35 members who deployed to Texas.

The task force is expected to arrive at its staging point, Eglin Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle, by Saturday afternoon or early Sunday.

Brian McNoldy, a hurricane researcher at the University of Miami, said Irma could easily prove to be the costliest storm in US history. The American Red Cross and Task Force 1 have had teams on the ground since then.
