Coleman backs Woodburn for greatness

Wales vs Austria live streaming free: preview, prediction

WALES teenager Ben Woodburn has admitted his incredible arrival on the global stage was a dream come true.

Woodburn was born in Chester, northwest England but qualifies for Wales through his maternal grandfather.

Coleman told reporters at a press conference: "I know his strike was fantastic but his all-round composure was great too".

Martin O'Neill's Ireland dropped two points behind Serbia, who they host in Dublin tomorrow, while Austria's prospects now appear all but doomed ahead of the visit of Georgia.

"I know how tough the industry is".

The introduction of Woodburn came as a surprise because the striker has not featured for Liverpool this season but he seized his moment spectacularly, collecting the ball outside the area, taking one touch and sending a low curling right-foot shot just inside the post after 74 minutes.

And while it was a tad unusual to see another player other than Gareth Bale pop up with the game-winning magic, the Real Madrid superstar did produce a delightful double nutmeg on two Austria defenders.

The Wales boss also refuted the suggestion he put Woodburn on in Cardiff to stop any chance of England persuading the youngster to defect to them. "I would never do that", said Coleman.

"If I thought he was going to be out of his depth I wouldn't put him through that".

As aesthetically pleasing and ground-breaking as the double nutmeg was, I'm still saying that Isco's nutmeg on Marco Verratti was the best piece of skill displayed in the global fixtures last night.

"He has taken his chance but he has to be patient again because things don't happen overnight and he must realise he probably won't start on Tuesday [against Moldova] but if he comes on he will do a job". I think that the Wales team is able to drag the match in their native walls.
