Andrew Luck Activated From PUP List; On Active Roster To Begin Season

Andrew Luck’s fantasy status still hush hushMore

Irsay said on the team's television broadcast on August 31 that he doesn't know how long it will take for Luck to regain his form.

The Andrew Luck injury saga has provided an unhealthy amount of misery for Colts fans as they've been waiting on pins and needles all offseason long.

The Indianapolis Colts on Saturday moved their $140 million quarterback from the physically unable to perform list (PUP) to the active roster as part of their personnel decisions to reach the NFL-mandated limit of 53 by 4 p.m.

Luck had been on PUP since late July, making him ineligible to practice.

Irsay wouldn't confirm that Luck is out, but admitted it's likely he will spend the first weekend of the season on the sideline.

Otherwise, the Colts quarterback would have been out for at least the first 6 weeks of the regular season, whereas now Luck can practice with his teammates immediately and potentially start much sooner.

It's unlikely that Luck will play against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, according to owner Jim Irsay, but the Colts have not officially ruled him out.

"I will be better than I was coming into this", Luck said. (Andrew) is a young guy, 12 to 14 to 16, maybe 18 years, I don't know, going forward (with the Colts).

Colts general manager Chris Ballard said during the team's pregame radio broadcast prior to Thursday's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals that Luck would be taken off the PUP list by Saturday.

Luck's current five-year, $122.9 million deal takes him through 2021.
