Abbas, expected to arrive in Turkey on late August 27, will meet President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the visit, İbrahim Kalın said last week. "Every time they repeatedly stressed to me how much they believe and are committed to a two-state solution and a halt to construction in the settlements".

US President Donald Trump's Middle East peace envoy and son-in-law Jared Kushner promised to present a peace plan within four months if the Palestinian Authority refrains from taking steps against Israel in global forums, a senior Palestinian source told the Israel Hayom newspaper on Sunday.

President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner led last week's mission, with the delegation also including Jason Greenblatt, envoy for global negotiations, and deputy national security adviser Dina Powell.

The Palestinian source also said Kushner told Abbas the United States was under the impression the PA president does not trust the White House and stressed that the U.S. is working hard toward creating the conditions for a peace deal.

Senior Fatah official Jibril Rajoub told PA radio earlier last week the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah hopes the meeting between Abbas and Erdogan will "be a positive factor in ending the division".

Sources added that the American delegation listened and did not give away any viewpoints at the meeting.

On Thursday, they will meet separately with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

In June, Al-Hayat reported that Trump is "considering pulling out of peace talks" between Israel and the Palestinians because of the two sides' positions.

According to Al-Hayat, the delegation led by Kushner expressed openness to the two-state solution while refusing to divide the borders of these countries within the 1967 borders, a determination which the delegation said should be left to direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. "We know that things are hard and complicated, but there is nothing impossible with good efforts".

"If the U.S. team doesn't bring answers to our questions this time, we are going to look into our options because the status quo is not working for our interests", Ahmad Majdalani, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told The Associated Press.

This was Kushner's third official visit to the region.
