Bonnie Tyler sings 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' for actual eclipse

Solar Eclipse Bonnie Tyler

Now 66, Tyler will be backed up by the band American dance-rock band DNCE who is best-known for the 2015 hit song "Cake By The Ocean". Watch that go down below.

Tyler's 1983 chart-topper "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was on many music lovers' minds yesterday, and the charts reflect that.

During the total solar eclipse, which was the first to cross the United States coast-to-coast in 99 years, guests also participated in eclipse-themed activities, including dance parties, trivia, enrichment lectures and interactive science sessions.

The Welsh star belted out her classic hit Total Eclipse of the Heart for cruise ship passengers as the moon blocked out the sun's rays on Monday. The announcement of Tyler's eclipse performance snagged headlines and even a Twitter moment last week.

In the video, Tyler is aboard Royal Caribbean's "Total Eclipse Cruise", or a seven-day cruise that promises "the optimal spot at sea for guests to witness the total solar eclipse". But we won't be on board a Caribbean boat with Bonnie Tyler. Streams of the song increased globally by 827 percent.

"Since there hasn't been a total eclipse since 1979, were you thinking ahead?" he asked. Released on New Year's Eve in 1982, the 34-year-old song saw a resurgence as it became the unofficial theme song for eclipse viewers across the country.

"'Total Eclipse of the Heart' is an evergreen song all year through, not just on eclipse". Plays on Amazon and Apple were not taken into account as those figures were not yet available, but on Monday the song hit no. 1 on iTunes.
