Bobby Roode makes 'glorious' debut on WWE SmackDown Live

Bobby Roode def. Aiden English by pin following the Glorious DDT.

After settling on Baron Corbin as referee, Owens faced off against Styles in another highly-competitive match that once again featured the special guest official getting physically involved. Looks like Shelty B will be teaming with Gable for the foreseeable future.

Now stuck refereeing another clash between AJ Styles and Kevin Owens on the condition that he get a shot at KO should he win back the U.S. championship, Corbin actually did a decent job of calling the match right down the middle.

He hit Owens with a Pele Kick and then a Styles Clash to pin Owens to keep his title in a thrilling match. Finding a way to end the Styles-Owens feud, giving Nakamura a chance for retribution to continue the Mahal storyline, and pairing Owens and Zayn in a semi-friendly backstage segment were all intriguing choices. After the match, The Usos grab a couple of microphones and cut their usual promo. Styles said that Owens will not get a title match because he already lost at SummerSlam. Six percent voted for Nakamura's handicap match.

Backstage - Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn: Owens brought Zayn a referee shirt, which Zayn rejected while telling Owens that he reflected on the request and remembered all the times he had been stabbed in the back.

It's a bit odd for Gable to have a tag team partner 11 years his senior, certainly one who is in his second stint with the company after a long time away. Owens had second thoughts after his dismissal but was stopped by Corbin, who said he would referee the contest as long as he got a guaranteed US title match if Owens won.

SmackDown Women's Champion Natalya teamed with Carmella, holder of the women's Money in the Bank Briefcase, against Becky Lynch and former champion Naomi. Lynch hit her finisher on Carmella and Naomi hit a dive off the top rope for the win.

Dolph Ziggler backstage interview. She said "see you next week" to whoever she was talking with.

The SummerSlam rematch was made by Smackdown commissioner Shane McMahon after Owens pled his case about how McMahon was not a fair referee during his title match with Styles on Sunday. Shane McMahon came out.

During the match, things got heated as AJ Styles had the Calf Crusher locked in on Owens. Baron Corbin offered and said that he'll do it only if he gets the first shot at the USA title if/when Owens wins. Owens wanted a special referee and Styles was fine with it because he can beat him and it doesn't matter to him who the referee is. McMahon put it on and declared himself as the new referee.

Unable to get over his frustrations with the referee change, Styles mounted a comeback against Owens and defeated him using the Phenomenal Forearm. A very good show from SmackDown overall and one that gets this viewer interested in tuning in next week.
