Pep Guardiola wants West Brom's Jonny Evans at Man City

West Brom defender Jonny Evans has been discussed as a shock target for Manchester City

Evans would boost City's homegrown quota of players.

Girona downed Manchester City by a narrow 1-0 margin to secure the 41st Costa Brava Trophy.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has suffered a blow in his quest to bolster his side's defensive reserves after an £18m bid for West Brom skipper Jonny Evans was rejected.

The Northern Ireland worldwide only left Manchester United in 2015 but is now a potential target for Premier League rivals City.

Evans, who played 198 games for Manchester United before joining West Brom in 2015, has two years left on his existing deal at The Hawthorns, having scored three goals in 61 appearances.

Pep is still chasing another forward option this summer with Alexis Sanchez appearing to be the main target but he also still wants cover at the back, a fourth centre-back behind Stones, Kompany and Otamendi as Denayer and Mangala have been deemed surplus to requirements and Tosin Adarabioyo possibly being sent out on loan.

Leicester's interest earlier this summer prompted Pulis to say in July: "Jonny Evans is staying at West Bromwich Albion Football Club".

Evans began his career in England with Manchester United and went on to make nearly 200 appearances in all competitions, winning three Premier League titles and two League Cups.

His time with United came to an end under the tenure of Louis Van Gaal, who said that Evans did not feature in his plans for the club.
