'Munsters' Reboot in Development at NBC With Seth Meyers Producing

The Munsters: NBC Developing (Another) Reboot with Seth Meyers

NBC is rebooting 1960s comedy series "The Munsters" about a family of lovable monsters with "Odd Mom Out" creator Jill Kargman. Meyers, of "Late Night with Seth Meyers", will be executive producer with Mike Shoemaker. According to the logline (via Deadline), The Munsters "follows members of an offbeat family who are determined to stay true to themselves but struggle to fit in in hipster Brooklyn".

"The Munsters" is NBC's second announced reboot of an old series for next season. For those who are familiar with the original series that aired on CBS for two short seasons, between 1964 and 1966, The Munsters is beloved by almost all genre hoppers, which includes horror fans, comedy fans, and people who love great family entertainment.

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, there have been a series of attempts at reboots in recent times, some of which were successful, while others failed horribly. Universal TV is also on board to produce.

Of course that time seems to be now, with the new show to revert back to the half-hour format that "The Munsters" originally took on. Under Meyers and Kargman at NBC, the reboot will relocate from sunny Mockingbird Heights to "hipster Brooklyn" in NY. Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Hannibal) tried in 2012 with 1313 Mockingbird Lane, which starred Jerry O'Connell, Portia de Rossi and Eddie Izzard and was actually pretty good, though NBC only aired the two-hour pilot. Meyers, who has a producing deal there, came on board. Herman was married to Grandpa's daughter Lily, played by Yvonne De Carlo. It aired as a Halloween special in 2012 but didn't go forward as a series.

"I won't say we won't do another version of The Munsters again", NBC chief Bob Greenblatt said in January 2013.
