Miami Dolphins: Jay Cutler spurns broadcasting for one-year deal

Tannehill reinjures left knee in practice

According to Adam Schefter, the deal is a one-year contract worth $10 million.

In 2015, Gase was offensive coordinator in Chicago and helped Cutler to a career-high passer rating of 92.3. He was then hired by Fox Sports as an analyst.

The team was left scrambling when starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill went down after a non-contact injury to his left knee, the same knee he partially tore the ACL and MCL last December.

Early on, the Dolphins zeroed in on Jay Cutler, who previously worked with head coach Adam Gase while with the Chicago Bears. "I think he's just trying to figure out everything". I mean, you don't expect this to happen.

For now, Cutler and the Dolphins are on the same page: Both realize he needs to be 100 percent committed to a return to the field. After the news came late last week that QB Ryan Tannehill had re-injured his left knee at practice, it has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride for the team, with a whirlwind of names connected to potentially stepping in and filling the void.

While it's unknown if Tannehill will elect for surgery, it was reported several days ago by CSN Philly that it is an option for him. I don't think he looked at our situation.

All that to say that Ponder has not thrown a pass in an National Football League game since the 2014 season.

As Gase mentioned on Friday, Matt Moore is the starting quarterback "right now".

That was not, however, an issue until Thursday when Tannehill sustained a new partial tear to the same ligament.

Aside from the connection between Gase and Cutler, Kaepernick generally doesn't fit the type of scheme Gase is looking to run in Miami.

In his one year with Gase, Cutler threw for 3,659 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 15 games. But provided that Cutler finds chemistry with new targets in a familiar offense, Miami has enough talent elsewhere on the roster to contend for the playoffs yet again.
