Oklahomans can shop for back-to-school without sales tax this weekend for the state's annual tax-free holiday.
While Oklahoma's tax free weekend only includes clothing, Texas' tax free weekend includes clothing, backpacks and school supplies under $100 that are tax free.
Qualified clothing and footwear - $100 or less per item; accessories are not tax-free. Online orders of eligible merchandise will not be charged sales tax even if the items are delivered beyond the sales tax holiday.
Parents with students who are required to use computers, tablets, or mobile devices at school will have to pay more, as these items are not tax exempt.
The idea largely is aimed at back-to-school time.
For instance, in Houston, the sales tax rate will be 3.375 percent - which is absent the state sales tax. A personal computer can be a laptop, desktop or tower computer system which consists of a central processing unit, random access memory, a storage drive, display monitor, keyboard and other related devices. General schools supplies such as notebooks, pencils, pens, etc... are also not exempt in Maryland.
And while local sales taxes are collected in 38 states, according to the Tax Foundation, those 16 are giving shoppers a break. Iowa's Tax Free Weekend includes both Friday and Saturday, August 4-5 while Missouri shoppers get to enjoy an extra day, August 4-6, Friday thru Sunday.
Adult and baby diapers, fishing vests, football jerseys, and school and work uniforms are exempt.
"The tax holiday is a great idea", Burnett said.
The sales tax holiday exemption does not extend to rental of clothing or footwear; nor does it apply to adjustment (including embroidery) or cleaning services performed on clothes and shoes. Judy says, "just go to the Meijer customer servIce desk and produce and i-d that you are a teacher, we will give you 10 percent off".
