'Fidgety' Teen Jumps From Plane in SF

A 17-year-old passenger jumped out of this Copa Airlines plane after it had landed at San Francisco International Airport from Panama City

The 17-year-old boy opened an emergency exit door on the Copa Airlines jet, as horrified passengers watched in stunned disbelief, before jumping onto the wing of the plane and sliding to the ground, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The teen, who was uninjured, was seized by a construction crew on the tarmac and taken into custody by Customs and Border Protection, says an airport official.

Also, he said, at the time of the antics the guy was in a state of emotional distress, but fortunately the injuries he had received, we also know that the teenager is a U.S. citizen and travelling alone.

No runways or other flights were affected, Yakel said.

A woman from San Jone, Sophia Gibson, told KNTV that the people sitting next to the teen were shocked when he jumped off the plane.

Photos from inside the plane show concerned crew and passengers gathered around the open emergency door, and a brief video below shows the plane sitting on the runway with that door open. And then he just starts running the other way.

Officials are also questioning passengers who were on the flight, ABC 7 reported. Relay the message back.

Passenger Isaac Rodrigues said a flight attendant used her body to block the gap where the door had been until the plane was at the gate.

In November 2016, a United Airlines flight from New Orleans, which just landed in Houston, Texas and was taxiing towards its gate at George Bush International Airport, a female passenger was said to have walked out of an emergency exit and jumped out of the aircraft. Copa Airlines lands at SFO and a passenger could not wait until they got to the gate.

The airline says it is cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
