Yankees fall victim to rare run-scoring triple play against Reds

Todd Frazier

NY has some noteworthy hitters as well.

"I was asking everybody what to do", Frazier said after the Yankees 4-2 win over the Reds on Tuesday night.

NATIONALS 8, BREWERS 5: Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Lind each hit a two-run double in a seven-run eighth to help Washington rally to a win at home.

"He's electric", CC Sabathia said of Severino, who gave up only three hits in seven innings and improved to 7-4 with a 3.03 ERA. Severino has especially shined recently. Severino has allowed just one earned run in 21 innings (0.43 ERA) and has completed seven innings in a career-best four straight starts.

Being unable to hit Severino sent the Reds to their 11th loss in 13 games. He makes it easy on the defense because there's not much action for us. "But right now we got a lot of guys". "He's got a great arm". While the speed might be surprising, Severino often is clocked in the high 90s in the later portions of his outings.

"It's an important series, really important", Girardi said.

Over on the Yankees' side, they're going with RHP Luis Severino on Wednesday. Reds SS Zack Cozart (right quad) was held out of the starting lineup after feeling soreness running from first to third on CF Billy Hamilton's double in the eighth inning Tuesday. Bailey last pitched Friday against the Miami Marlins.

That was not ideal, but it could have been worse-the runner on third did score on the play. Early on, I left some sliders up but got them in my spots later.

It was the sixth time this season the Blue Jays have hit consecutive home runs. "I have to compete with what I have that day". The Yankees chased Bailey after Holliday's single made it 6-2. NY hit into a triple play at home for the first time since Randy Velarde did so May 29, 2000. Severino has never faced Cincinnati.

It was Frazier's first at-bat at Yankee Stadium as a member of the Yankees that will go on the highlight or blooper reel. NY is 7-5 since the All-Star break after opening the Cincinnati series with a 4-2 victory Tuesday.

"Just very exciting", said Todd Frazier, still thrilled to be in a pennant race after spending the first part of the season with the White Sox, last in the AL Central.

The triple play is one of the most unlikely occurrences in baseball, so the odds of Frazier hitting into one in his first home at bat with a new team were astronomical. It's amusing to laugh about it now but at the time I was a little upset.
