The Panthers Are Releasing Veteran OL Michael Oher

Panthers release Michael Oher

Offensive tackle Michael Oher has been released by the Carolina Panthers after failing a physical.

In 2016, Oher started the first three games of the season before a concussion caused him to be inactive for the next seven games and placed on injured reserve.

The 31-year-old posted and quickly deleted an Instagram photo showing 10 pill bottles with the caption, "all for the brain" back in June that had everybody anxious about his longterm health. But he was best known because his life story was the catalyst for the 2009 movie "The Blind Side", starring Sandra Bullock.

According to the Charlotte Observer's Joe Person, Oher is still in the NFL's concussion protocol. Oher turned himself in days later.

Oher's eight-season, 110-game National Football League career began with Baltimore in 2009.

After his release, Oher tweeted, "The Brain is a scary thing".

He played for the Tennessee Titans in 2014. He had three years remaining on his contract after signing an extension last season.

The Panthers appeared set to move on with Daryl Williams and rookie Taylor Moton at right tackle after a June minicamp.

Girma Berkessa says in the complaint that an "extremely intoxicated" Oher pushed him to the ground, kicked him and called him a homophobic slur several times April 14.

Oher spent the last two seasons with the Panthers and was part of the 2015 team that lost to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.
