Doom Update 6.66 Today Makes All Multiplayer DLC Free, Adds New Progression System

According to the release notes, this patch unlocks all multiplayer DLC to everyone. All season pass content for the game is now free, adding in nine new maps, three extra guns, three new demons, new armour sets and more.

The new progression system changes how players unlock demons, guns, equipment, and even customisation options. Other new features in the update include new enhanced kill notifications, a new rune system, and the option for players to reset their progression to experience the new system with a fresh start.

Bethesda is replacing the current random unlock system with one that respects specific levelling requirements and/or in-game challenge levels. During the weekend, players can sample Doom's multiplayer and the first two levels of the campaign, free of charge.

To finish it all off, Bethesda will also be hosting a Doom free weekend beginning July 20 on the Xbox One and PC, with a PlayStation 4 free weekend following on July 27.

Bethesda is also offering up a free weekend for anyone who hasn't picked up Doom yet.

The announcement comes in a post on, which says that the company has "retired the season pass", and is making "all of the multiplayer DLC content available to all players". Unlock the Hack Modules, Runes do not need to be activated and do not expire.

"We're confident new and veteran players alike will enjoy the control and predictability in this new multiplayer progression system", game director Marty Stratton said on the Bethesda Blog.

The multiplayer experience has also been tweaked.

To celebrate the new patch, DOOM is going to be having a couple of free weekends, enabling those still on the fence about the title to give it a go without paying a penny. Veteran players will receive a special badge recognizing their commitment to the game while those that have achieved the max character level will earn a unique Slayer badge.

Fixed an issue where players would disconnect from a match under certain conditions.

Fixed an issue with the Multiplayer Challenge "Aimbot Hax" where Reaper Longshots would not count towards challenge completion. Some fans, however, would like an add-on to the single-player instead.

Fixed an issue in Multiplayer with inconsistent power item spawns on Outbreak.

Fixed various matchmaking and lobby issues.
