Pakistan launches military operation against militants in tribal area

Pakistan launches offensive against IS near Afghan border

"This operation was necessary because Daesh is getting established there and we have to stop the influence spreading into Pakistani territory through the Rajgal Valley", military spokesman Lt Gen Asif Ghafoor said.

Asif Ghafoor told that there is no organized infrastructure of Daish in Pakistan, and Pakistan Army will not allow to establish them either. Referring to the recent visit of US Senators representing Defence Committee, he said that they were taken to the areas where the state had regained her writ by eliminating terror and they had expressed appreciations of the role of Pakistan's military. He said worldwide border with Afghanistan will be fully secured to check infiltration of terrorists and to destroy their hideouts in our side of the border.

He announced that Operation Khyber IV was launched by the army today in Shawal and Rajgal.

DG ISPR said Raymond Davis wrote his book as a contractor, and his remarks regarding his exit from Pakistan may have other purposes.

Elaborating situation on the Line of Control, Asif Ghafoor said India is committing massive ceasefire violations on LOC to divert world attention from the grave human rights violations and indigenous struggle of Kashmiris in the Occupied Kashmir.

Replying to a question on Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav's case, DG ISPR said the army chief is reviewing the proceedings of the case and will take a decision on Jadhav's mercy appeal on merit.

On a question, Major General Asif Ghafoor also made it clear that Pakistan Army is not a part of any conspiracy against the government, and has no direct link with the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

He went on to say that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was constituted by the Supreme Court and the representatives of military institutions i.e. Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) worked honestly under the apex court's orders. Two of its members belong to the Inter-Services Intelligence and the Military Intelligence.

He added that splinter groups of TTP adopting the bandwagon of Daesh in Pakistan are already being taken care of by the security forces.

He said the entire border will be fenced and it would be kept under electronic and manual vigil permanently by constructing forts and posts after every 1.5 km distance. "We only fire towards bunkers where we think the firing is coming from".

It seemed that many of questions were fed to JIT by someone, he said.

There have been 27 major operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 817 IBOs, he said.

Incidents of terrorism in Pakistan have shown a drop over the three-year period from 2014-2017, he said. Barrister Zafarullah said that numerous papers filed by the JIT were not based on facts. "We try to keep civilian casualties to a minimum", he added.

He termed the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as "very critical for the progress of Pakistan" and said the armed forces would give complete security and will not let it fail at any cost.

He said all state institutions are on one page when it comes to the CPEC.

At the end of his address, he relayed a message from the army chief: "We are building peace in our country, brick by brick, moving from relative stability towards enduring peace. For this, the army should continue to perform its role with support of all other state institutions".
