A bomb squad has been called to an Air Force base where a "suspicious truck" carrying "potentially hazardous material" pulled in this morning. Namely, the truck belonged to Big Foot Moving and Storage, which was stopped at a gate. Those pallets will undergo more testing.
Around 9:45 a.m. ET, security at the base in Bedford notified police of a "suspicious truck" that had been stopped at the gate for a routine vehicle inspection.
Some shipping materials from the vehicle were taken to the State Police crime lab for further study, Leahy said.
"Given the times we live in, we operate in an abundance of caution", Massachusetts State Police Major Fran Leahy told a news conference after the site was cleared. A WBZ report mentions that traces of explosive residue were seen on the truck.
The base temporarily closed the Vandenberg Route 2A Gate and has evacuated nearby facilities. The state police bomb squad has responded and its Air Wing is on scene as well. As a safety precaution, an area around the gate has been evacuated'.
The air force base is located approximately 16 miles northwest of Boston. They have also closed the exit from Route 2A. The side of the truck had the logo "Big Foot Moving and Storage", which is a local moving company. A woman who answered the phone at the company's Acton headquarters said, "We don't know what's going on".
No injuries were reported, no one was arrested and no one was suspected of any crime, officials said.
