Nintendo Switch Online app finally launches with Splatoon 2 in July

Splatoon 2 Nintendo Direct and the Best Splatoon 2 Deal Yet

Splatfest, a periodic event established in Splatoon, is an epic four-on-four battle.

Per Nintendo's earlier announcements about the Switch's online service, this is still an early version of the app, with a final, more fully featured version set to release with the full launch of the Switch's online service sometime in 2018.

With the advent of Nintendo Switch Online, there's a good chance that other games such as Rocket League won't have built-in voice chat capabilities, forcing audio through a smartphone. If there's only one game you keep on your radar for throughout the sweltering summer heat, let it be Splatoon 2. This little feature tallies up just how much turf you've inked and compares that to real life locations.

Nintendo will launch a new "Nintendo Switch Online" companion app for its latest console that will arrive on July 21 alongside the release of its new Splatoon 2 game. You'll also be able to send sweet in-game gear from the app to your game.

The online stream of the Splatoon 2 Direct will begin at shortly at 7am PT / 10am ET. There're tons of new features to enjoy this time around such as deep customization, new game modes, new weapons, and larger battles. Did we mention the new idols, too? Switch owners that never got to experience Splatfests on Wii U will now get an opportunity to see the game at its most competitive.

Nintendo just livestreamed a video presentation for its upcoming multiplayer shooter Splatoon 2, and I simply can't get over how freakin' fashionable all those little squidlings are.
