Where To Watch Fourth Of July Competition On TV And Online

Why we need to put an asterisks on Joey Chestnut's hot dog eating dynasty

Chestnut scarfed down a record 72 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to win the 2017 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Independence Day in Coney Island, New York City.

Nothing personifies that more than the celebration of a guy who eats a lot of hot dogs. Chestnut, informed of his new rival's threat to his reign, said he was looking forward to it. The next year 2 minutes were shaved from the event.

It's a decade of dominance, this win giving Chestnut his 10th mustard yellow belt in 11 years.

In the woman's division, Miki Sudo took home her fourth championship after eating 41 hot dogs.

Chestnut was a man of few words following his victory, but said he was feeling good despite the six dozen franks sitting in his tummy.

The women's competition was broken out into its own thing in 2011, and Thomas won the first three before being unseated by Sudo.

From sea to shining sea, millions of Americans consumed millions of hot dogs today.

The demonstrators later issued a statement saying they were from a group called Direct Action Everywhere, and want Nathan's to stop holding the contest. Chestnut was averaging just about nine hot dogs per minute halfway through the competition. Now that he has won two years in a row, he hopes to maintain his streak.

In another debate about eating, former six-time Nathan's champion Takeru Kobayashi has offered his take on whether a hot dog is a sandwich.
