Venus Williams at fault in fatal car crash, according to police

Venus at fault in fatal car crash in Florida – police

"I am devasted (sic) and heartbroken by this accident", wrote Williams, the world's former top-ranked female tennis player.

Earlier this week, news broke that Venus Williams was allegedly involved in a fatal auto crash, where injuries sustained in the accident reportedly led to a man's death.

She initially responded and said: "There are really no words to describe, like, how devastating. I'm completely speechless", as she appeared to be holding back tears in the tournament's media room. "I prepared for a lot of matches, tried to get ready for whatever my opponent will throw at you, but you can't prepare for everything", she said.

Meanwhile, Venus Williams trains in London for Wimbledon, an event she's won on five occasions. Williams replied, "Maybe I should go". Williams was driving to the intersection when the green light turned red and was stuck, blocking the way due to traffic. The passengers in the other auto were Linda and Jerome Barson.

A man was taken to hospital after the accident on 9 June and died two weeks later from his injuries, he said.

Palm Beach Gardens Maj Paul Rogers says the crash remains under investigation.

Civil court documents filed last week claim Williams was "driving carelessly and recklessly" which "led to the catastrophic injuries and death of Jerome Barson".

The star of the american tennis Venus Williams has confessed Saturday to be "devastated" by the fatal accident of the road in which she was involved at the beginning of June in Florida.

Even with the incident looming as a major distraction, Venus Williams is the No. 10 seed at Wimbledon 2017, which is set to begin next week.

When play resumed, Mertens held serve to make it 5-4, but Williams served out the match. Williams will still compete in Wimbledon, according to AP. "I like the surface".

Petra Kvitova, two-time Wimbledon victor and one of the favourites again this year, said she was sure that it was tough for Venus to focus on her game.
