Is Donald Trump Plotting A Surprise Sneak Visit To The UK?

Once confirmed it is believed officials would have to make arrangements for a visit including a potential meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May or other senior ministers

After the latest rumours of a presidential visit, the Stop Trump campaigner and Guardian columnist Owen Jones placed his Twitter followers on high alert, tweeting on Sunday night: "Donald Trump is planning to sneak into Britain to avoid protests".

London-based daily The Times reported that Trump has a gap in his schedule between the G20 summit in Hamburg over the weekend and a scheduled trip to France on July 14.

Donald Trump has been accused of running scared after it emerged that he could visit the United Kingdom in a matter of weeks with as little as 24 hours' notice, to prevent people from organising protests.

Speaking last month after the visit was not included in the Queen's Speech, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Trump would be welcomed soon. It is likely it will be hastily...

The Prime Minister confirmed the President had been invited on a state visit, during which he will be hosted by the Queen, when she became the first global leader to visit Trump in Washington after his inauguration. RT if you're willing to commit to protesting this bigot at short notice ✊.

The smaller visit would have taken the place of the official state appearance, with the intention of allowing Trump to enter and leave the country without fanfare and without protest. Theresa May's team are on standby for Trump to visit Downing Street as well.

In January, a petition to stop Trump's state visit gained more than 1m signatures after his executive order banned people from mainly Muslim countries and refugees from Syria from entering the US.

Mr Trump is crossing the Atlantic later this week for visits to Poland, followed by the G20 summit in Germany - where he will also have a meeting with Angela Merkel.

"A spokesman for Prime Minister Theresa May told CNN: ".our position remains the same, that an invitation was extended and accepted.

May extended an invitation for a state visit to the the USA president during her visit to Washington - but a date has still not been confirmed.
