Trump urges 'energy dominance' as he promotes exports, jobs

Trump detailed the previous steps he has taken to lift regulations curbing domestic energy production, including moving to rescind rules throttling greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

President Donald Trump on Thursday promoted a "golden era" of the USA energy business by seeking to assert power overseas through a boost in natural gas, coal and petroleum exports.

Access to affordable, reliable and diverse energy sources is essential to growing manufacturing in the United States.

The president recalled the 1960s and 1970s, when Americans" quality of life "was diminished by the idea that energy resources were too scarce to support our people'.

During his campaign, Trump also characterized Mexican migrants living in the USA as murderers and rapists and pledged to build a wall that he said Mexico would pay for.

The Trump administration also is taking a formal step toward writing a new five-year plan for selling oil and gas drilling rights in US waters, including the Arctic and Atlantic Ocean.

Trump called energy scarcity a myth, and he highlighted the US role as the No. 1 producer of natural gas.

US President Donald Trump is confident in transforming America into an energy-dominant society, the Financial Express reported.

"The U.S. nuclear sector is at a crisis point where the industry must innovate or die", Jay Faison, CEO of the conservative clean energy group ClearPath Foundation, said in a statement.

'Many of us remember the long gas lines, and the constant claims that the world was running out of oil and natural gas.

The Interior Department is rewriting a five-year drilling plan established by the Obama administration, with an eye toward opening areas in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans that now are off-limits to drilling.

Donald Trump lashed out at CNN in the middle of a speech about energy resources on Thursday, likening the cable network's habit of broadcasting "fake news" to decades-old canards about the supposed scarcity of oil and natural gas. He also is pulling the USA out of the landmark Paris climate accord, in which almost 200 countries pledged to slash carbon dioxide emissions.

Trump's other announcements concerned energy exports.

However, the president said, there remained, a good deal of energy reserves that were yet untapped.

His administration will seek not only the American energy independence but American energy dominance, he said.

The Energy Department authorized two long-term applications on Thursday to export an additional 0.33 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Lake Charles LNG Liquefaction Project in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
