Trump, Moon to Talk North Korea Strategy

North Korea taunts US with another 'nuclear missile test' just a day after it claimed it was ready for weapons talks

But what belies this line that "he knows that China at least tried" is the fact* that out of growing frustration over the Chinese inaction on North Korea and bilateral ties, Trump is thinking to take punitive action by imposing tariff on imports like Chinese steel. "But there are no good military options, and a North Korean response to a U.S. attack could devastate South Korea and Japan". "And yet, a discussion is necessary if there is a need for the Korea-U.S. FTA to improve for a more mutually beneficial relationship".

"For full abolishment of the nuclear program, what can South Korea and the USA provide in return?"

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

US President Donald Trump will press South Korean President Moon Jae-in to improve trade imbalances with the United States during meetings at the White House on Thursday and Friday, a White House official said.

Last week, President Trump denounced North Korea as a "brutal regime" after the death of Otto Warmbier - the U.S. student who died after being released from detainment in North Korea.

Signing a peace treaty with the United States used to be the North's standing demand in return for dismantling its nuclear programmes. Moon campaigned on taking a more conciliatory tone in dealing with North Korea and earlier this month officially suspended deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system, or Thaad.

On his second day, Moon is to meet Paul Ryan, the speaker of the House of Representatives and other House and Senate officials. "Without the cooperation of China in global sanctions done by the U.N. Security Council resolutions, these sanctions will not be effective at all", said Moon.

Moon arrived here Wednesday for his first presidential trip.

With more South Korean tariffs set for elimination over the next few years, U.S. exports would be even more competitive.

Greg Scarlatoiu of the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea in Washington, D.C., said the Warmbier case should come up during the summit because it addresses the concerns of both leaders. Yet South Korea lacked a head of state who could forge the kind of personal connection that other governments had developed with the USA president.

As a presidential adviser, Moon helped craft the Sunshine Policy of the liberal governments of 1998 to 2008, a period of more active engagement and cooperation with North Korea.

As relations deteriorated between the two countries the Malaysian government may have turned to supporting the United States in its effort to rein in North Korea's nuclear weapons development, according to Kyodo.

"I will go firmly hand in hand with President Trump", Moon said in his commemoration speech. Until that time, both leaders look to increase pressure on the regime.
