Trump compliments Irish reporter on her 'nice smile'

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and US President Donald Trump will speak by telephone on Tuesday for the first time

Caitriona Perry is a Washington correspondent and USA bureau chief for RTE News-Ireland.

He told Mr Varadkar: "She has a nice smile on her face".

The word Irish journalist Caitriona Perry used to characterize her recent interaction with President Donald Trump in the Oval office was "bizarre". "So, I bet she treats you well".

Social media users blasted Trump's comments - describing him as "creepy" and the fact he singled her out as "disgusting". "We also hope you agree with us that no one, and especially not the President, is above the law".

She told RTE Entertainment: "Usually we would shoot from outside the window of the White House".

"Well, we have a lot of your Irish press watching us. they are just now leaving the room", Trump said.

Leo has previously spoken about his admiration for Justin, and said in the Dáil today the he will be delighted to welcome Mr Trudeau and his family to Ireland next Tuesday. Go ahead, come here. He then immediately turned back into a creep, singling out a pretty, blonde woman member of the Irish press and talking about her smile.

A possible visit by Trump to Ireland was not discussed, although Varadkar's predecessor had invited the president to visit the country in March.

Mr Trump sparked outrage when a 2005 recording of him claiming he could do "anything" with women emerged during his election campaign previous year.
