The original, hand-drawn Disneyland concept art created by Walt Disney and the legendary artist Herb Ryman was the most talked about item on the auction list.
The map was sketched for collecting funds for the construction of the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California. They used it as a presentation for investors for the then-in-the-planning park, which opened July 17, 1955. For more than 60 years, Curran didn't realize he had an extremely valuable piece of Disney memorabilia in his possession.
The project eventually received the support of ABC - paving the way for Disneyland to become a reality. Almost 1,000 iconic Disney artifacts were up on the auction block at Van Eaton Galleries. After the theme park's construction, the map hung in Disney's office until a production assistant, Grenade Curran, asked if he could take it home.
The original, first-ever map of Disneyland sketched by Walt Disney in 1953 has been sold for a whopping Dollars 708,000 at an auction in the US.
"As we had expected, this extraordinary Disneyland map sold for an outstanding price", Mike Van Eaton, Co-Owner of Van Eaton Galleries, told Forbes.
"We are beyond thrilled that the map will continue to be appreciated and cherished just like it has been for all these years".
Sunday's auction saw close to 1,000 Disneyland artifacts on the block.
