CNN tweets a correction at Trump

CNN retracts story about supposed Russian meeting

CNN announced late yesterday that three employees have resigned based on their involvement in a now retracted story on Trump advisor Anthony Scaramucci's ties to a Russian investment fund.

The story was posted on the network's website on Thursday and was removed with all links disabled the following night.

Across pro-Trump media, pundits and reporters jumped on the incident as an example of the network's lack of credibility and repeated claims oft-repeated by President Donald Trump that the network was "fake news".

A statement from CNN said it had apologised to Anthony Scaramucci adding: "The story did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted".

CNN has accepted the resignations of three journalists involved in the publication of the article, and it is now requiring approval from two top editors before any Russia-related story can be published. Reporter Thomas Frank, editor Eric Lichtblau and investigative head Lex Haris resigned.

The increase of CNN's daytime audience more than doubled and its prime-time audience jumped 70 percent past year during Trump's presidential campaign. He explained that CNN's ratings are off the charts and that even upper management has directed the network to stay on the Russian Federation narrative.

"And the CEO of CNN (Jeff Zucker) said in our internal meeting, he said good job everybody covering the climate accords, but we're done with that, let's get back to Russian Federation". "That's adorable. This is a business", said Bonifield.

From staging sensational news reports to releasing fake stories about President Trump and Russia, CNN's reporting techniques are under fire.

"Once it was determined that editorial processes were not followed, CNN deleted the story from CNN.com", the network said Friday on its site.

It identifies a man in the video as CNN Supervising Producer John Bonifield.

CNN says President Donald Trump is wrong to suggest the network is failing. The law firm of one victim recently sued O'Keefe, alleging violation of a federal wiretap law.

Scaramucci denied any wrongdoing, and later applauded CNN for doing "the right thing" by retracting the story:"It's ok".

He also wrote, "So they caught Fake News CNN cold, but what about NBC, CBS & ABC? Those are the facts", the CNN Communications account tweeted to Trump. On the conservative channel Fox News, reliably pro-Trump pundits Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity jumped on the story.
