Frank Mason III selected 34th overall by Sacramento Kings in NBA Draft

FORD: A look back at the Sacramento Kings' best and worst draft day decisions

Former University of Kentucky Guard, De'Aaron Fox, was taken by the Sacramento Kings with the 5th overall pick in Thursday night's NBA Draft.

After Kansas forward Josh Jackson canceled a workout with the Celtics in Sacramento, Danny Ainge said that "There's nothing to do in Sacramento". Something some players don't figure out until they've been in the league a few years.

Kentucky has had at least one first-round draft selection every year since 2009.

Jackson's jersey will be honored in the rafters of the Dean Smith Center. No one who shook commissioner Adam Silver's hand on the stage had more personality, and no one had a bigger smile when describing what it was like to be drafted.

Fox said his defense and speed separates him from the four other highly regarded point guards in his class. "Nothing changes overnight. But for me it will be different".

Teams that finish outside the top-16 each season go into a lottery and, barring a previous trade, will get one of the first 14 picks in the NBA Draft. The trade down with the Blazers netted them UNC forward Justin Jackson, who fills a hole on the wing, as well as Duke's Harry Giles.

Jason Williams: In 2009, the Kings took a chance on a flashy point guard from Florida with off the court issues.

Afflalo signed a two-year, $25 million deal with the Kings last offseason.

Despite a well-documented injury history, the 27-year-old is coming off a highly productive campaign that saw him average 21.1 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Here's the full list of picks the Kings hold in the 2017 draft, which will be updated with grades and analysis as each selection is made.

"I'm as passionate about gaming as I am basketball and thrilled to be a part of the HyperX team", Fox said in a release.

"When you have that - and he's really good at pick-and-rolls - he's on the scouting report", the Kentucky coach said.
