Washington Capitals rumors: Jay Beagle and the NHL Expansion Draft

They already own the sixth overall pick, but TSN's Pierre LeBrun spoke to an National Hockey League general manager, who believes there's a chance the Golden Knights have already made side deals to acquire more draft picks. Darling will have a $4.15 million salary next season while Ward is due $3.3 million and Lack $2.75 million.

Nashville GM David Poile said he has spoken with McPhee and that the Predators "will do the best we can to protect as many assets as we can". Here's what they said about teams in their market.

The Carolina Hurricanes' Eddie Lack (31) reacts after the New York Islanders' Andrew Ladd (16), a former Hurricane, scored a power play goal against him during game against the New York Islanders at PNC Arena on April 6, 2017.

Each day through the Vegas expansion draft and up until free agency on July 1, TSN.ca breaks down the latest news and rumours around the National Hockey League. Marchessault is a free agent after this coming season.

McPhee wasn't prepared to discuss individual players when specifically asked about Fleury, but noted there were no surprises based on the numerous mock drafts the Golden Knights conducted over the past few months.

Saturday might not have been as eventful as some hoped, but it was still significant in the process to get the expansion draft settled for the Vegas Golden Knights. "I've been certainly talking to every team and will be talking to Las Vegas prior to our submission time tomorrow".

Speaking of trades, it might take some time for rumors to turn into confirmations, at least when it comes to teams paying a ransom for the Golden Knights to take specific players. Under contract for another four years at $7.25 million per season, the Bruins will instead focus on trying to find another capable wing to skate with Krejci, particularly on his left side. But unless they toss Vegas a prospect I don't see it happening.

Probably a lot of wheeling and dealing once the trade freeze is lifted Thursday, a day before NHL Entry Draft begins in Chicago. But, it's unlikely the Knights will take him given his recent injury history not to mention his play over the last two seasons. Stajan has one year left and is captain material on a new, young team. Numerous commentators say he should be traded, though most doubt the Oilers can find a trading partner. That's far better than losing him for nothing.

Still, this expansion draft is unique, much anticipated and finally here so let's get ready for it all the same.

How should Vegas Golden Knights GM George McPhee go about his business? Fleury was nearly traded at the deadline due to the Penguins already having Matt Murray in net but they chose to keep him for their playoff run; a good decision as Fleury starred in the first two rounds with Murray nursing an injury. Not to suggest the Penguins would go insane and over-spend on a free agent, but less Fleury the Penguins would have about $20 million in space under the now expected ~$75 million 2017-18 salary cap.
