Yoenis Cespedes leaves Mets game after fifth inning with sore left heel

Jay Bruce remembers his MLB Draft experience at one point thinking he was going to the Rockies instead of the Reds

Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left Monday's game against the Cubs with a sore left heel, MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports. In addition to the strained left hamstring, Cespedes incurred soreness in his right quadriceps during his rehab.

DeGrom pitched the Mets to their seventh win in a row over the Cubs at Citi Field, dating to the 2015 NL Championship Series. It was his second complete game in 89 major league starts. He neatly bounced back from getting hit hard in two starts, walking four and striking out six. He's allowed nine homers in 28 innings over the span and has yielded 19 longballs this season, one behind Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo for most in the majors.

Messed around and got a triple-double: The Mets' offense has come under fire lately but despite the early error by Cabrera, they made it up for it. deGrom put the ball on the ground the Mets stopped almost every ground ball, turning three double plays. "Bad things happen, too", Cabrera said. Lackey has surrendered 16 home runs in 12 starts this season, including eight in his last five turns. He induced four double plays between the third and sixth innings.

Josh Harrison hit a two-run home run, his eighth, in the first inning off Kyle Freeland (7-4). Bard pitched 211 times for Boston from 2009-13, and spent parts of the last two seasons in the minors for St. Louis. The man headed toward center field, where a security guard made a firm tackle. Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw throws to the plate during the fourth inning of the team's baseball game against the Washington Nationals, Wednesday, June 7, 2017, in Los Angeles. Nelson (4-3, 3.45) has struck out 27 in 21 innings over his past three starts and has a 2.16 ERA in his last seven outings.

With the return of Lugo, Cespedes and Matz over the last two days, the Mets optioned INF Matt Reynolds, RHP Tyler Pill and INF T.J. Rivera to Triple-A Las Vegas. Kershaw (8-2, 2.20 ERA) hasn't lost a game since May 1 against the Giants and has 23 strikeouts in 14 innings over his last two starts.
