Soon, iPhones will block texts while driving

A key focus of the WWDC 2017 presentation was the upcoming iOS 11, which will see Apple making significant improvements to its mobile operating system, along with broadening its ecosystem.

Apple has announced its iOS 11 update will only operate on 64-bit devices at the World Developers Conference, which means older models such as the iPhone 5 and 5c will no longer receive updates and security fixes, The Guardian reported.

So how does it work?

Users will also be able to set favourite contacts who are still able to reach them even when they are driving.

The iPhone screen will lock in order to prevent drivers from using most of their apps while driving. The sign-up process is already live and it's likely that you will be able to download them later this month, that too for free, unlike their developer-only counterparts.

After all, one of the main reasons Apple is launching Files is to give iPad owners more flexibility to use their tablets as improvised laptop stand-ins.

Perhaps most importantly for working professionals, Apple will finally update its Mac Pro PC, which has remained unchanged since 2013 - but the newer version has not yet been released. We break down all the news and tell you what you really need to know on this episode of Geared Up. And on any given day, around 660,000 people are on their cell phones or other electronic devices while driving.

Pete Williams, spokesman for the RAC's BePhoneSmart campaign, said: "These days it is less phone calls and more the pings and buzzes of texts and social media apps that have the potential to distract a driver from the task at hand".

USA Today reports that when turned on, your iPhone can detect when you are driving and automatically mute all notifications; so amid a flurry of texts, posts or tweets, your screen remains dark.

US today said that roughly 46 states prohibit texting while driving.

Engadget also speculates that Apple may prohibit device pairing via NFC in order to maintain the exclusivity of its proprietary easy-pairing system based on the W1 chip.
