Don't expect to see Kaepernick on an NFL field soon

Pete Carroll says Colin Kaepernick is 'a starter in this league&apos

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman (25) walks with teammates following NFL football practice, Friday, June 2, 2017, in Renton, Wash.

Seattle released Jake Heaps to make room on the roster for Davis, who was signed Monday after spending time with the Rams, Browns and Broncos.

Carroll wasn't willing to speculate why Kaepernick remains unsigned after opting out of his contract in San Francisco and becoming a free agent.

Was Kaepernick's "starter" role an easy way for the Seahawks to pass on the 29-year-old. Kaepernick, who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl following the 2012 season, not only had been a longtime rival of the Seahawks but also became the focal point of much debate when he made a decision to initially sit and then kneel during the national anthem last season.

Baldwin spoke to reporters a day after the Seahawks announced they were signing Austin Davis as a backup quarterback and not Kaepernick after having had each in for a visit two weeks ago.

"They [NFL teams] are going to give every opportunity for the young guys to compete [and] show their talents", Baldwin said. They know what Colin can do. "He's a starter in this league". That's not to say Kaepernick would be that, but he would pose much more of a threat than Davis does. Money might not be an issue, but Kaepernick might also not be "blackballed" by the true sense of the word, meaning there isn't actual collusion on the owners' part to keep him out of the league.

Secondly, there's likely a significant price difference between Davis and Kaepernick. Period. The Seahawks and every other National Football League team has a salary cap to manage and fit within, and saving money for a player they never plan on playing - in a flawless world, Wilson stays injury-free this and every year - is a business decision. When Wilson took the podium Friday after an extended session by Pete Carroll, he joked, "Coach Carroll took so long, I may miss Sienna's first steps".

"No, I think it's just a nature of the business", Baldwin said of trade discussions. There's 32 teams out there. To be able to come home and see Little Man, and also see the new one, too, see little Future and see Sienna, it's really cool to be around them both. "So I have no doubt in my mind that he's going to have a job here rather quickly".

"He's able to run [and is] able to get some throws out", Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner said.

"To some degree, but I think that's really minor", Baldwin said. I feel really, really young. If I was John and Pete, of course, you listen to everything, everything that comes in you're going to listen to it, regardless of how absurd it is or ridiculous it is you're still going to listen to it.
