Subaru has let slip a telling teaser image of what it says will be "a better way to get your daily dose of fibre" - carbon fibre, to be precise. At that time, Subaru said it would arrive in a couple of years' time, and now the company is living up to that promise as the wraps will come off in just about a week. The new Type RA will add a carbon fiber wing and roof, more suspension parts, and a number of engine upgrades.
With two new models set to debut next week, expect more details on both the WRX STI Type RA and the BRZ STI once Subaru takes the covers off both cars on June 8. Most rear drive performance cars would have a big problem, but the STI had some fast laps on the rain-soaked track. It will be called the Type RA - a familiar nameplate to Subaru in Japan, but it's the first time we'll see it in North America.
Would a BRZ STI with a 300-hp turbo engine be awesome? If the new Type RA is anything like the 2003 model we tested, it'll be louder.
Subaru will likely use this Time Attack Prodrive Type RA NBR Special race vehicle to introduce a new 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR Special Edition production model.
It's actually a bit unclear which record Subaru is aiming for, with the Japanese automaker simply saying it wants the "new lap record for a four-door sedan".
As of the moment, there is not much specs to go on regarding the upcoming Type RA.
