Dallas Cowboys: Nolan Carroll charged with DWI

BUFFALO NY- OCTOBER 30 Rob Gronkowski #87 of the New England Patriots runs for extra yards against the Buffalo Bills during the second half at New Era Field

According to the Dallas Morning News, veteran cornerback Nolan Carroll was arrested early Monday morning on a charge of suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Carroll signed a three-year, $10 million deal with Dallas in March after spending the previous three seasons in Philadelphia. The Cowboys had not yet commented on the arrest. He was working with the Cowboys' first-team defense during organized team activities.

It's a surprising arrest as the Cowboys organization actually provide a free auto service for players who feel they are too intoxicated to get behind the wheel. He previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Miami Dolphins selected Carroll in the fifth round of the 2010 National Football League draft out of Maryland.

With the big losses in the Dallas secondary, Carroll could be in line for a starting spot at cornerback next season.

He is expected to replace Morris Claiborne in the starting lineup, although the team also added Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis in the National Football League draft. The 30-year-old cornerback has played seven seasons in the National Football League and has eight career interceptions.
