Modi condoles Environment Minister Anil Dave's death

UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim on Thursday condoled the death of Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave and said he had a lifelong love for nature and environment.

He was inducted as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change in July previous year after Prakash Javadekar was elevated as the Human Resource Development Minister.

Union environment minister Anil Madhav Dave has died at the age of 60.

In a condolence message to his brother, Abhay Dave, the President said, "I am sad to learn about the sudden demise of your brother, Anil Madhav Dave".

Modi said that Mr. Anil Madhav's demise is a personal damage.

"All possible measures were taken immediately at AIIMS, but he could not survive and (was) declared dead around 9.45 a.m.", the AIIMS statement said. "My condolences", Modi tweeted.

He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh after completing his post-graduation in commerce from Gujarati College in Indore.

Dave was born to Pushpa and Madhav Dave at Barnagar, district Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on July 6, 1956.

In a letter dated July 23, 2012, Anil Madhav Dave has asked for his last rites to be conducted on the banks of Narmada.

Flower wreaths were offered on behalf of the President Pranab Mukherjee and MP chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. It was Union minister, Uma Bharti, who saw the spark in Dave and handpicked him as her media manager for the 1999 Lok Sabha election when she was contesting from Bhopal. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2009 and got another term in 2016.

The late minister's interest in statecraft culminated in a book, "Shivaji Va Suraj", which has a foreword by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The recent tweet about Dave giving him a tag name - "A Devoted Public Servant".

Several ministerial colleagues of Chouhan, including public relations minister Dr Narottam Mishra, minister of forests Dr Gaurishankar Shejwar, minister of panchayat and rural development Gopal Bhargava, minister of higher education Jaibhan Singh Pavaiya, besides former CM and ex-home minister Babulal Gaur also expressed condolences on Dave's sudden death. The government has named Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan as Dave's replacement in the green ministry, in addition to his existing portfolio.
