In the fall, after "NFL Thursday Night Football" concludes its run on CBS, "The Big Bang Theory" will move to Thursdays at 8 p.m. and will serve as a launch pad for its prequel, "Young Sheldon", beginning November 2.
Set in 1989, the show will be narrated by Jim Parsons AKA the original Sheldon, and will star Iain Armitage, who is now starring in Sky Atlantic's Big Little Lies, as Young Sheldon, the boy genius who skipped four grades to start high school at the same time as his older, football-playing brother.
The show will air on September 25 for a special launch and then move to Thursdays, airing directly after The Big Bang Theory.
According to EW, CBS will hold the returns of "Elementary", "Code Black", "Man with a Plan" and "The Amazing Race" until midseason.
CBS Chairman Leslie Moonves told reporters at the news conference that he isn't ruling out bringing back "The Big Bang Theory" for future seasons beyond the current deal signed earlier this year.
In the just-ended season cliffhanger, Sheldon is seen proposing to longtime girlfriend Amy, played by Mayim Bialik.
SUNDAY: 7, 60 Minutes; 8, Wisdom of the Crowd; 9, NCIS: Los Angeles; 10, Madam Secretary. At 10 p.m., Shemar Moore returns to CBS in the new action drama S.W.A.T. "Me, Myself & I" slides to 9, and the comedy "Superior Donuts" rejoins the schedule in the 9:30 slot.
The rest of the Monday schedule on CBS has "Kevin Can Wait" returning at 9 p.m.
After "NFL Thursday Night Football" ends its run, "Kevin Can Wait" moves to Mondays at 8 p.m.
Moonves was asked about CBS' interest in American Idol before it ended up at ABC.
