More than one-third of Americans oppose GOP healthcare bill

Given that employer health plans are the largest source of health insurance, this last-minute measure could impact lots of folks who assumed they were immune from the House repeal-and-replace bill.

Trump pledged on Sunday that the effort to gut former President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law would be successful. More Americans would opt out because the bill would eliminate the individual mandate - which requires most people to get insurance or pay a penalty. Also, fewer companies would offer policies since the employer mandate would be lifted. "It was nice that we had the votes and that we were able to do it and deliver, and I feel really proud that we were able to keep the promise and help rescue the American people from what has really been a failing system".

According to Luke Jackson, spokesman for Tester, there would need to be significant changes to the AHCA before he would sign off: "Sen".

One of my top priorities is to pass legislation to replace the broken healthcare system created by the Affordable Care Act with one that makes health care affordable and accessible for Coloradans. "The bill passed by the House today doesn't do that". The Senate plans to draft its own healthcare legislation in the coming weeks.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME, a moderate Republican whose vote will be critical in getting a bill to Trump's desk, voiced concerns about potential higher costs for older people and those with pre-existing conditions. MacArthur wrote an amendment that satisfied some lawmaker's concerns about how the bill would treat people with pre-existing medical conditions.

Republicans insist the American Health Care Act will be an improvement over Obamacare.

Senators have questioned aspects of the House bill, which would slash funding for Medicaid, the program that provides insurance for the poor, and roll back much of its expansion during the Obama administration. "But I can also assure you my staff did".

Other Republicans are mad that the latest version of the GOP bill was never analyzed by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office after numerous provisions were added at the last minute.

Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., said on Meet The Press that the House bill will not be "not dead on arrival" in the Senate, but they will also not be "bringing it immediately on the floor".

House Speaker Paul Ryan on Sunday described claims Republicans rushed through their replacement bill for health care reform as a "bogus attack on the left", though he accused the Democrats of doing the same thing in 2009.

"They are going to be living in the emergency rooms again", potentially driving up health care costs, Kasich predicted.

When Stephanopoulos pointed out that even if the AHCA didn't take away coverage from those with preexisting conditions, it enabled insurers to charge them more, Ryan countered that such provisions wouldn't apply to people who retained continuous coverage - or coverage without any gaps - to which Stephanopoulos noted that people often lose coverage, and its not their personal choice.
