Bannon's future in doubt as president changes tack

"I am my own strategist". However, it is not the negative descriptions of Bannon which he in concerned about, but more that he is portrayed as the actual man in charge at the White House, with Trump his puppet. In a lengthy conversation with Bannon this week, the president repeated his admonition that the chief strategist and his adversaries needed to "knock off" their back-and-forth sniping.

"I have never seen him more confident in terms of the things he is working on with the president", he said.

Bannon is a controversial guy, to say the least, and I don't agree with some important positions he has taken.

The unusual public, lukewarm support from the boss has Bannon's friends and advisers anxious he will soon be out of a job.

Trump is now trying so hard to reassert dominance in his own administration that he's acting like Bannon's official title isn't chief strategist.

"I think it's very important in a healthy democracy to have a free and fair press". Spicer has apologized repeatedly, including on Wednesday, and the White House hopes that controversy will pass.

The idea that Bannon will survive is far from guaranteed, especially with a chief executive so unpredictable as Trump.

"There's a new political order that's being formed", Bannon said during the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this year. "Stephen Miller is as brilliant as he is kind", another White House source told Politico. He spoke in February of "our sovereignty" as a country and about the new administration's aim for "deconstruction of the administrative state".

Trump's desire to distance himself from Bannon has even prompted him to tell demonstrable falsehoods. He did so in an interview with Michael Goodwin of the New York Post.

That view cuts to the core of why Bannon might be on the outs at the White House.

As one who runs the government like a business, Trump seems less than amused with the distraction of the Kushner vs. Bannon struggle, telling the New York Post, "Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will".

At the behest of Rebekah Mercer, the mercurial daughter of NY billionaire Bob Mercer, Trump installed Bannon and Conway, at that point already a Trump pollster, at the top of his campaign organization.

Last week, Trump removed Bannon from the National Security Council, while Powell appears to be ascendant. "They don't want to force Bannon out of there 'cause it's gonna make Trump a better president". On the other hand, his first major legislative initiative stalled in the House when conservative members of his party revolted against an unpopular health care proposal they deemed to be too much like the entitlement it was supposed to replace.

The more likely outcome if Bannon goes is that he returns to Breitbart and continues to expand on its emerging media empire.

During an interview on NBC's Meet the Press in January, Chuck Todd asked Conway why Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer claimed the inauguration crowd sizes were misreported by the press with no evidence to support his claim. But he also has drawn a line in the past when it comes to his kids. His appointment there during the first couple weeks of Trump's presidency raised eyebrows, as "advisers" do not traditionally hold such a role. That is why I am pleased that my colleagues have joined me to send a clear message to this White House: "Steve Bannon must go, and he must go now".

Says Ryun: "Kushner is family".

This source added that he had met with Bannon within the past few days. That, Trump said, is "very bad for Russia" and "very bad for mankind" and the world.

"Trump has been Trump for a long time". During their phone call, Xi told Trump that China is willing to continue working with the USA on denuclearization. Manafort said the AP report is "misleading" and "incorrect".
