Texas deputy constable fatally shot after arriving for work

The deputy was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston, where he later died.

Assistant Chief Deputy of Harris County Precinct 3 Clint Greenwood was killed by a single gunshot wound at the courthouse in Baytown, Texas, according to ABC News.

The shooting happened around 7 a.m.in the 700 block of W. Baker Road east of Garth Street. No information was released on the suspect. "This is a reminder to pray for and support all law enforcement officials in our state, especially at this time of grief", he said in a statement Monday morning.

Officers responded to a call for assistance and found the deputy shot there at least once, Dorris said.

Lt. Dorris said Baytown PD is working the investigation, but so far there are not enough details to discuss a possible suspect, suspect vehicle or motive for the shooting.

The courthouse and nearby Sterling High School were put on lockdown as police cars swarmed to the area.

"We ask the entire community to please stand by us", Harris County sheriff Ed Gonzales said Monday.

"The Harris County Precinct has suffered a great loss", Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton said at a press conference.

"This morning the Harris County Pct".

Greenwood was a 30-year law enforcement veteran, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
