Watch as Google walks you through the new wonders of Android O

One notable enhancement will be an improved battery life, which the company has achieved by being more strict with background play for apps. Those still on Android Marshmallow might benefit the most from the new Pixel Launcher, though they might have better luck using the Nougat backport instead.

Google plans to release more developer preview updates over the next several months, Dave Burke, vice president of engineering, said in a blog post yesterday. And it will not launch the final version of the new version until the third quarter of 2017. Google's Pixel and Pixel XL were one of the best smartphones of 2016 and now Android-maker will release its flagship Google Pixel 2 later this year. If the Android O update follows a similar schedule, users can expect to see the new version - "O's" full name has yet to be determined - later this year. "These changes will make it easier to create apps that have a minimal impact on a user's device and battery", he said.

Android 8.0, now codenamed 'O, ' has only been available for approximately a week as a developer preview, but XDA Developers have already been hard at work extracting and creating a method for users on Android 6.0.1 and up to give Google's new Pixel Launcher a try. "Background limits represent a significant change in Android, so we want every developer to get familiar with them."... This video is hosted by Google's Nasir Khan, and in it, he has told about the features of Android O. Now that has been made avaiable, unofficially, of course, to any Android device running Android Marshmallow or later.

Android Marshmallow 6.0 remains the most widely used version of its mobile OS, with a 31.3-percent share of users, according to the latest data from Google, collected earlier this month.

Moreover, the Google Pixel 2 is also expected to have a water resistance feature, which was disappointingly absent in its predecessor.
