Nearly half of Americans say Republican healthcare reform 'not an improvement'

"Replacing Obamacare will come with a price for elected representatives who vote to scrap it, say many Americans, who clearly feel their health is in peril under the Republican alternative", said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll. Only 42 percent of GOP voters say they favor the bill, while 24 percent oppose it and 35 percent are unsure.

A mere 19 percent said they would be more likely to vote for their lawmakers under that scenario.

The Quinnipiac poll is based on a survey of 1,056 voters nationwide between March 16 - 21 and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

Democratic leaders are unified against the bill while some conservative Republicans have criticized it for not doing enough to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, the measure familiarly known as Obamacare which was passed in 2010 and was the signature domestic achievement of former President Barack Obama.

But most Republicans are against "Trumpcare", as well.

Half of all voters support a partial repeal of Obamacare. But just 20 percent support a full repeal, and 27 percent said the law should not be fully repealed.

Questions over whether to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, however, provoked wildly differing opinions.

The poll was conducted between March 16-21 of 1,056 voters around the US, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.

There are no good numbers for Republicans on their health care bill.

When they were asked simply about the idea of cutting funding for that group, 60 percent of voters opposed it, and 32 percent supported such cuts.

It finds that more than four-out-of-five Americans oppose cutting funds to medical research (87 percent to 9 percent), new road and transit projects (84 percent to 13 percent), and after school and summer school programs (83 percent to 14 percent).

And the majority of poll respondents - 56 percent - are outright opposed to the AHCA, along wth 26 percent who remain undecided.
