Oakland mayor asks for delay in Raiders-to-Vegas vote

Raiders owner Mark Davis filed an application with the league in January to move the team to Las Vegas in time for the 2020 season.

NFL owners approved the Oakland Raiders' move to Las Vegas at the league meetings on Monday. With the requisite number of votes at today's owners meetings (the vote was 31-1 in favor with only the Miami Dolphins as the lone holdout for it being unanimous), the nomadic team that came to Oakland, moved to Los Angeles, and moved back to Oakland, will begin the process of calling Sin City, home.

The Raiders have been in Oakland in 45 of the franchise's 58 seasons, including the last 22. "And listen, bottom line, this is a money grab for the national football league", said Paolantonio.

But it wasn't much longer than a good Derek Carr heave ago that the NFL's deference to Stan Kroenke and the Rams and its mandate to not steamroll Dean Spanos and the Chargers left the Raiders stuck in no-man's land.

Closed out of Los Angeles and with nothing viable to turn back to in Oakland - a reality that remains to this day - there was uncertainty in the air for the Raiders.

What happens in the last two seasons when fans won't attempt to show up in Oakland knowing they're on borrowed time?

"The Raiders were born in Oakland, and Oakland will always be part of our DNA", said Davis, dressed in an ill-fitting black suit and white tie. That could make it possible for the Raiders to win an AFC title - or more - before they leave the Bay Area.

Still, the stadium is now over five decades old and the pursuit of a new, better home didn't yield many results in Oakland. "As you know there has been a stadium situation in Oakland that we felt needed to be addressed".

"I intend, if the fans would like us to stay there, we'd love to be there for (both option years)", Raiders owner Mark Davis said after announcing the move. The Raiders' deal with Las Vegas seemed destined to pass, as they already had $750 million pledged toward a new stadium there via public funding.

The Rams and Chargers will share a stadium in Inglewood.

The Raiders will play the 2017 season in Oakland, with a timetable on the move not confirmed. The Raiders are moving to Las Vegas.

He made his quick initial pitch to Raiders fans, saying the team is open for business and they can hop on board for the 49ers bandwagon.

"People always ask me what's my favorite place to play, and it was always in Oakland", Marshall said. A site for the new project has yet to be determined, but it will probably be just off the Las Vegas strip and seat 65,000.

-Speaking of Redskins games for the upcoming year, Washington will face the Chargers in front of a packed crowd, as Los Angeles announced on Monday that all season tickets now available for sale at the StubHub Center for the 2017 regular season have been sold.
