Leonard, Aldridge help Spurs outlast Timberwolves

Spurs take down Wolves

LaMarcus Aldridge showed the way for the Spurs, who trailed 39-51 in the second quarter before fighting back in the third on the way to their 54th win in 70 games. Minnesota was outscored 31-to-16 in the third quarter after taking a nine-point lead into halftime.

Karl-Anthony Towns had a big night to lead the way for the Wolves, finishing with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Minnesota visits Los Angeles on Friday to face the Lakers.

San Antonio scored 58 points in the second half, hitting 54.3 percent of their shots in the final 24 minutes.

Aldridge put up 26 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. "We have to be able to count on each other when the pressure is greatest; you have to be at your best". Leonard, who scored just two points in the first half, finished the game with 22.

Shabazz Muhammad came off the bench to score 18 points on 8 of 15 shooting. That seemed to give the Spurs some new life, as they came out after halftime with an added goal. He recorded his 53rd double-double of the season, surpassing last year's total of 52 double-doubles.

For a minute there, it was hard to remember why Minnesota was on the outside of the Western Conference playoff picture looking in. "It's a shame that we get three games like that, seeming like it's not important when they were the most important we played all season". The operation, which was performed by Dr. Martin O'Malley in NY, repaired a fractured navicular bone in Bjelica's foot.

The Wolves (28-42) gave up an average of 121 points over their three-game road trip before returning home Tuesday - all losses. F Omri Casspi made his debut one day after signing a contract with the Wolves. Spurs F David Lee did not play due to a foot injury.
