The state unemployment rate was 6.4 percent, up slightly from 6.3 in December.
The unemployment rate in Nebraska was 3.3 percent in January, unchanged from December, according to preliminary data issued Monday by the State Department of Labor.
The Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical region did not see any change from January 2016 compared to its 2017 unemployment numbers, which were released by the State Department of Labor.
Nationally, the unemployment rate is at 4.8%.
Major cities with the lowest unemployment rates are: Vestavia Hills at 4.2 percent, Homewood at 4.4 percent and Hoover at 4.6 percent.
"January saw normal fluctuations in employment, while the overall unemployment rate was stable", said John Albin, labor commissioner. Labor economists initially estimated the state had added jobs at a 2.6 percent rate previous year, but that was revised down to 2.3 percent. For the US states and D.C., North Dakota has the highest labor force participation rate, of 71.48%, while West Virginia has the lowest, at only 53.19%.
Nonfarm payroll jobs data is available at http://www.maine.gov/labor/cwri/ces1.html. This is based on the latest unemployment rate released by the Alabama Department of Labor. Employment in government declined 6,000.
Jobs in educational and health services increased by 6,500, mostly in health care and social assistance.
Employment in professional and business services, which tend to add to the demand for office space, continued to trend up in February, by a net of 37,000 jobs. Growth in nondurable goods offset the losses in durable goods, due in part to reported hiring in food manufacturing. "We are working to ensure that these individuals receive proper severance benefits, job retraining, re-employment services and other assistance".
