Luxurious watchmaker TAG Heuer and Intel have officially announced the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45, an Android Wear-powered smartwatch created to combine both style and substance. The smartwatch comes with Tag Heuer's Swiss watchmaking heritage offers connectivity features with a customizable, modular design.
TAG Heuer emphasizes the fact that this watch carries the Swiss Made label, ensuring that fans of higher-end timepieces take it a little more seriously. On its web site, TAG Heuer has launched a Watch Selector that lets you customize your flawless Modular 45 watch, choosing from a variety of modules, straps, and lugs across an array of materials, including titanium, calfskin, rubber, ceramic, and diamond. The core range comprises 11 different designs in either brushed titanium or black PVD, with 45 additional designs available on request, for a total of 56 design options.
As per the rumors, the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 watch will come with an AMOLED display and will have a 45mm watch face. Interestingly enough there's talk of Intel developing a virtual assistant of its own, which might eventually make it onboard of the smartwatch.
Intel worked with Tag Heuer on the Connected Modular 45, providing its Atom processor and technical abilities to engineer a full titanium metal body, yet still include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC.
The lithium battery is said to offer more than 24 active hours of life. The Connected Modular 45 will carry forward the legacy of TAG Heuer as a watch that is smart and oozes opulence. It comes Google voice control, fitted with a small microphone. Tag Heuer says more modules, both smart and mechanical, might well be launched in the future.
The new Tag Heuer smartwatch was announced on 14 March 2017 at 11am.
The Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45 does look like a rather large watch.
The Tag Heuer Connected is £1100, with the Modular 45 £300 more at £1400. These three smartwatches aim to serve as a showcase for all of the new and great things that Android Wear 2.0 is capable of, but they all have share the same problem - they don't cost enough money!
