Malaysian UN workers leave North Korea

The young man is Kim Han-sol, grandson of late North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il, nephew of current ruler Kim Jong-un, and son of recently assassinated Kim Jong-nam. The video was published March 7 by the Cheollima Civil Defense, an organization that focuses on rescuing North Korean defectors and refugees.

"My father has been killed a few days ago". He showed his passport and said that he is now staying with his mother and sister.

"I have given him my assurance that the government will do everything we can to ensure that they return home safely soon. We also recognise our colleagues who remain in the North or within its system who provide critical assistance in extracting such individuals".

The video could not be independently verified.

"My name is Kim Han Sol from North Korea, part of the Kim family", the man says in English in the 40-second YouTube clip uploaded Wednesday.

The video was published by a group, calling itself Cheollima Civil Defense, which said it responded last month to an emergency request by Kim Jong Nam's family for "extraction and protection". "Kim Jong-nam's acceptance of foreign media interviews increased the possibility of his presence being known inside North Korea, burdening Kim Jong-un".

However, two Malaysian employees of the UN World Food Programme were permitted to leave and arrived in Beijing on Thursday, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Pyongyang temporarily banned Malaysian nationals from leaving North Korea until measures are taken to protect North Korean diplomats and nationals in Malaysia.

Many speculate that North Korea somehow orchestrated the attack, which it denies.

"Kim Jong-nam had been the biggest obstacle for Chairman Kim's pursuit of long-term power in North Korean society heavily influenced by Confucian culture", he said.

"So, now we have done our investigation on the deceased", he told reporters after closing a ceremony to mark the modern police station pilot project at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail Police Station here yesterday.

On the same day North Korea fired a salvo of medium-range rockets into the Sea of Japan, sending a belligerent message not only to Malaysia but also to South Korea and the United States, who have been conducting military exercises off the coast and are preparing to install a new air defence missile system on South Korean soil.

Najib has denounced North Korea's order "an abhorrent act, effectively holding our citizens hostage" and a violation of worldwide law. He also for the first time directly accused North Korea of murdering Kim Jong-nam.
