Meet the Trumps: First Lady Melania opens White House doors

The Affordable Care Act replacement would change premium subsidies in a way that may not provide as much assistance to people with low incomes

President Donald Trump reopened the White House to public tours on Tuesday, and greeted the first group of visitors personally.

The animated frog reached near mythical status during the 2016 campaign, earning a special condemnation from Hillary Clinton and hate symbol status from the Anti-Defamation League. The tour group, many of whom were 5th grade students from Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, Ala., cheered.

Video shows an overly enthused Trump greeting the crowd and inviting one of the young boys, identified by the AP as 10-year old Jack Cornish, to pose with him for a picture.

The White House, also commonly referred to as "the People's House" offers free tours throughout the year.

Melania Trump announced that she will reopen the White House for tours.

For Kim and Glenn Pacceco from Tucson, Arizona, the third time signing up was the charm for getting a tour.

It is common for public tours to be briefly suspended during a presidential transition, but the hiatus took longer as the Trump administration hired staff and performed routine maintenance. Though Glenn Pacceco calls himself a Republican and a Trump supporter, the draw of the White House had little to do with party lines.

"Yeah, I think [President Donald Trump] is very concerned about that", White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told us during an off-camera briefing for White House reporters.

The Washington Post says these surprise appearances are nothing new - President Obama loved to occasionally get the jump on delighted guests and former President George W. Bush is reportedly fond of doing the same during visit to his presidential library in Dallas.

Priebus retains enough power to roll out a series of on-the-record statements in response to all the off-the-record venting, but at a certain point you have to start wondering just why Steve Bannon is such a big Priebus supporter.
