"Immediate registration of FIR under relevant sections of IPC, IT Act and other laws against the persons who have abused and threatened Ms. Gurmehar Kaur online", she said. "Stones were not pelted on Umar Khalid, he was not even present, stones were pelted on students who were there", she said.
The Delhi Commission for Women on Monday sought immediate arrest of those who made rape and death threats to Lady Shri Ram College student Gurmehar Kaur online, ANI reported. It's time for every student of India to unite! "I want all students to raise their voices against the violence and say that they will not tolerate this", she said. I don't want to be scared of you. DO you guys really think this can silence her, or us?
Her comments received widespread support including from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Minutes after Gurmehar posted the message, her classmates and students from other universities started sharing it as a result of which majority uploaded a similar profile picture.
Comparing Kaur with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, BJP MP from Mysuru Pratap Simha tweeted on Monday, "At least Dawood did not use the crutches of his father's name to justify his anti-national stand".
But, Sehwag's tweet was directed at an earlier campaign, when she said her father, a soldier who died in Kargil, was killed by war, not Pakistan.
"Everybody has freedom but that does not mean that you raise slogans to weaken the country?"
Among a barrage of sharp comments against her Facebook post, tweets of former cricketer Virendra Sehwag and actor Randeep Hooda were also seen as meant to bully Gurmehar.
Sehwag, an active social media user, took a swipe at the girl, coming up with his own placard.
Meanwhile, union home minister Rajnath Singh said in Varanasi: "I have told Delhi Police to practice restraint so that nothing goes wrong". However, we have received a letter from DCW. "If no action is taken against the culprits right now, people will lose faith in the system", she said.
Her post had come after violence on Delhi Univesity's Ramjas College campus by students of the ABVP, the students' wing of the BJP.
Severe weather possible, this evening
Severe weather is more likely this afternoon as we're looking at the main disturbance moving into our area from the southwest. Our weather will be changing quickly over the next 24 hours as a warmer and moist air mass returns to the state.
