Hot on the heels of the newly-updated Hyundai i30 comes the new i30 Tourer, the estate version of Hyundai's popular hatchback.

Officially called as the i30 Tourer, the vehicle has been revealed ahead of its official public debut, which was slated to take place at the upcoming Geneva Motors Show on the 7th of March 2017.

At 602 litres, the i30 Tourer's boot capacity is nearly up there with the best-in-class Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Golf, making it a far more practical proposition than its other serious rivals, the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra.

Just like the hatchback, the i30 Tourer comes loaded with a suite of active safety features to keep inattentive (or lazy) drivers on the straight and narrow. Speaking about the new Hyundai i30 Tourer, Thomas A. Schmid, Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe said, "Designed, developed, tested and manufactured in Europe, the New Generation Hyundai i30 is Hyundai Motor's DNA auto in Europe". There's the entry-level 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol with 118bhp, a 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol with 138bhp, and a 1.6-litre diesel with 109bhp.

With full-LED headlamps and vertical LED daytime running lights, plus Hyundai's recognisable cascading grille, the New Generation i30 Tourer boasts a strong exterior.

In addition to these systems Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detector, Rear-Cross Traffic Alert, Speed Limit Information Function and High Beam Assist are also available with the estate variant. While the price hasn't been announced, the current Tourer retails for £16,795 (US$20,900) so the new version should roll in somewhere in the same neighborhood. "The tapering roofline and dynamic proportions give the Wagon an nearly coupé-like silhouette".

A wireless charging point for smartphones has also been made a standard feature on the Tourer.

The powertrain line-up of the i30 Tourer consists of downsized turbocharged engines to enhance efficiency and responsiveness (preliminary fuel consumption in l/100 km for the Hyundai i30 Wagon range: combined 5.8 - 3.6 l/100km, CO2 Emissions 135- 95 g/km*). The Tourer is available with Hyundai's all-new turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, the 1.4 T-GDI delivers maximum power of 140 PS and the new three-cylinder 1.0 T-GDI that delivers maximum power of 120 PS.

Hyundai has upped its game on the inside of the i30, too, bringing big improvements to the interior, which no longer feels bland and uninspiring.

The new i30 Wagon will make its official debut at the 2017 Geneva motor show.
