Google Home now lets you shop using Google Assistant

Specifically, only speaker calls are expected to be placed with the devices rather asking your Amazon-Echo-Bluetooth-Speaker-with-WiFi-Alexa/dp/B00X4WHP5E/?tag=themacobs-20" target="_blank">Echo or Home to place a call and have it transfer to your phone.

Voice commands to start shopping via Google Home include "Ok Google, how do I shop?" or "Ok Google, order paper towels". The company released this Amazon Echo competitor late a year ago, and it ha since received quite a welcome into the markets! And companies are putting these assistants in everything from speakers and phones to connected appliances.

Deutsche Telekom offers Amazon Echo and Echo Dot, the two new speakers boasting Alexa, the smart voice-controlled assistant, in around 700 Telekom shops across Germany. It's obviously much more than a smart speaker given that it has the power of Google Assistant.

It will be interesting to see if and when the two U.S. giants are able to find a solution for these issues and roll out the functionality to their smart speakers but it is sure to add more utility to these already successful devices.

The battle between the Amazon Echo and Google Home is finally warming up. Both Amazon Echo and Google Home will need to come up with some way to enable the seamless transition of calls from one room to another, or back to the phone without interruptions. Amazon's phone feature would only record call metadata, like phone numbers and call durations, while the Journal's sources aren't sure what data Google would keep.

For Google and Amazon to introduce calling features for home speakers, the challenges are many. This service is based on Qivicon, the European non-proprietary Smart Home platform.

Calls may not be routed directly to an emergency center, locational information may not be available to emergency responders and, in a power outage, internet telephones go offline without battery backups.

Have you snapped up an Echo since it landed in the UK?
